Water Cybersecurity Legislation
A bipartisan cybersecurity proposal, the Water Cyber Shield Act, was introduced by Sens. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) to address cybersecurity risks facing the nation’s water infrastructure.
The legislation focuses on strengthening the ability of water and wastewater systems to identify, prepare for, and respond to cyber threats. Water utilities are part of the nation’s critical infrastructure, making cybersecurity an important consideration for communities, utility operators, and policymakers. The proposal also raises broader questions about how federal resources and responsibilities should be balanced with the needs and capabilities of local water systems.
WWEMA will continue to monitor developments and keep members informed.
